Best place to live in Australia for college student?
-
I'm from the Dallas/ Fort Worth area and I want to go to college in Australia. I don't wanna live somewhere expensive and too multicultural because I wanna be with aussies! If you could give the pro's and con's to the different cities you suggest please! I've heard a lot of great things about Perth, but I've also heard it's boring!?

Answer:
Many people associate Perth as being boring, dull and isolated we get it all, only because its further away from Melbourne (which think they are the world) and you dont have to travel for hours out of the city to get peace and quite. i have lived here my whole life and have never had a problem. there is lots to see and do, northern suburbs for beaches and fremantle for shopping and culture. don't listen to those who stay its crap most probably haven't even visited or ever lived here, so i wouldnt take much notice of that. perth: sunniest capitial city in the world, with a average of 8 hours of sunlight a day. - (not know to many, but its a fact). great transport system. great weather and people. some of the world most beautiful beaches eg. margret river for surfing, cotesloe and scarbough for relaxing. houses price have just reached the most expensive in australia, just takes time to look around for a bargin. education system is great. many south africans and pommies living in perth, still plenty of aussies. if you want to experience the real australia, one of the major afl (australian football league) states would be the best. eg. not Queensland, New south wales, act., northern terriory. no water restrictions in perth, like Queensland - though restrictions, limited showers, no cleaning car with hose, sprikler restricitons. here are a few of perth uni's: the univesity of western australia [UWA] - http://www.uwa.edu.au/ murdoch university [MURDOCH] - http://www.murdoch.edu.au/ curtin university [curtin] - http://www.curtin.edu.au/ edith cowan univestity [ECU]- http://www.ecu.edu.au/ University of Notre Dame Australia[UNDA] -http://www.nd.edu.au/ i would give it a go, i promise you, you want regret it! ...have a star*

well look you're young so don't go to perth, if you want to have fun while in uni like someone like yourself should be come to melbourne, sydney or brisbane brisbane universities arent that difficult to get into aswell oh and if you come to australia you're gonna experience multiculturallism, that's the beauty of australia, especially in universities

Don't want multicultural Australia huh?....that's tricky considering Australia is a multicultural country and education is our third largest export. I'd try for the white trash cities like the Gold Coast.... Griffith University or Bond University. They've even got McDonalds!

I live in Melbourne, but Id recomment Brisbane - there are some amazing universities, but it's on the beach, the weather is lovely and the people are really friendly. Melbourne is great, but more multicultural.

Don't go to Sydney. Although it's quite a busy and interesting city, it's really expensive for housing etc so wouldn't be good for a student. My favourite city is Melbourne, and I think they offer a lot for a student. I have known many international students during my time at Uni in Melbourne and they all seem to enjoy their experience. The ratio at any college in Australia is far favouring international students at the moment, due to more educational institutions looking overseas for full-fee paying students, rather than government supported, HECS students (governement payback scheme for tertiary students in Australia). I have never been to Perth, but the weather is quite pleasant, or so I hear, and there are some gorgeous spots up the west coast to visit during holidays. The beaches are gorgeous. The cheapest rent would probably be in Adelaide or Perth, but Adelaide is really boring (imo - born there) and small, so I wouldn't go there. Melbourne is between Adelaide and Sydney in terms of housing, but can be quite cheap if you share-house with other students. I hope you have a good time where ever you end up, we are a pretty friendly bunch mostly, so I think you would have a good chance of meeting heaps of aussies who will show you around :)

Go to Wollongong. It's not far from Sydney and the Uni campus is across the road from the beach. They also have an exchange program. Google University of Wollongong. Trust me on this. I've been here 4 years, but I didn't get here until after I finished college. By the way, they love the southern accent here. You're going to be popular. I would also suggest that you consider that little school in College Station. I studied 'abroad' there for one semester and it is a great place and a great time there in Aggieland.

since u don't wanna go to a uni thats very multicultural.... i would suggest not to got to the University of Southern Queensland. Go QUT (Queensland University of Technology) or UQ (University of Queensland). But I highly suggest Queensland because we are evidently the best state in Australia hands down in everything!!

Queensland!!!! the sunshine state! the university of the sunshine coast. when u say too multicultural and wana be with the aussies...do u mean in the city with the aussies, or the real ausie aussie in the more remote areas??? however, good luck and i hope u enjoy australia! it really is the lucky country and i love it

Unfortunately you cannot escape multiculturalism here. Every race, every culture (pretty much) are scattered around everywhere. Not only that, the universities are one of the biggest concentrations of multiculturalism. I am biased to my university of course ;) which is the Uni of Queensland. Great campus at St Lucia (although a bit packed, so many people!). Brisbane city is the place; I daresay Brisbane is probably not the most interesting place here but it is still pretty good. Melbourne might be a better choice for you. Do some research, good luck.
