Can I use 1st, 2nd class and E UK stamps as part of total for mail to Australia?

I need to put £1.22 postage on a card to Australia. Can I make it up with a mixture of stamps which include UK 1st or 2nd class stamps calculating their value at the current rate (27p and 36p). I think at one stage you couldn't but nw you can.
