How much money will it take to travel from Adelaide to Melbourne?

Should I travel around Australia or should I not ?

I have a strong desire to travel around Australia taking this route; Adelaide, Perth, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton , Port Hedland, Karratha, Broome, Darwin, Groote Eyelandt, Cairns, Gold Coast, Sydney and back to Melbourne. Traveling round Australia is an excellent idea but you are not going to make it on $250 a week. You can save on accommodation by camping but you will need to stay in proper camp sites occasionally to have a shower and wash your clothes and camp sites cost money. You are going to need to eat and food costs money. You are also going to need to get from one place to another. You could hitchhike or ride a bicycle, both of which are cheap, but there are few people hitching these days. If you are going to drive, Melbourne to Adelaide is about 750km. If you have a small car that does 6litres to the 100km, it will take 45 litres which, at $1.50 a litre, will cost you $67.50. Adelaide to Perth (2700km) will cost about $250 in petrol. What are you going to live on the rest of the time?

we have to know how you intend traveling. If you have a small car and camp in free places you will do ok, showers at the beach change rooms, cook your own food etc proper camping grounds will cost average 12 - 15 for a tent site thats over 40% of ya budget. the trip is 13000 to 15000km depending on side tracks. entry to parks cost $, fuel in outback has been $3.00 a litre. why not take 2 years and do some casual work on the way.

As a retired person, you should do anything yo like! But if you have $250 per week NO! Save up for something more useful like groceries and so on. Maybe have a trip down to Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin for like a month or two.

Robert19, if you procrastinate and don't do it, you will regret it to the day you expire. I did the Kimberli's trip, and I thank god I did.
