Is there a Financial Conservation Standard for the Indvidual?

Australia conservation project: location suggestions?

  • I've done conservation work through Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and loved it. I am planning a trip to Australia for touring as well as doing a project with Conservation Volunteers Australia. When on travel, I'll most likely be in the eastern part of the country, anywhere between Canberra and Cairns. I'll be traveling sometime between June-September. Since I'm actually coming from traveling New Zealand, I'll only be traveling Australia a short time. I would like to do the conservation project in a different setting/area and can use some suggestions. I'm interested in the Outback and also any farming areas. I like wooded, forest areas rather than near the ocean. I realize some of the places on the list are where I've already been or on the ocean, but here's a list of places to choose from: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Bathurst, Newcastle, Hobart, Launceston, Townsville, Bendigo, Geelong and Broome. The projects aren't necessarily in the cities but may be several hours away. These cities listed above is were the project starts from. Thanks for your suggestions!

  • Answer:

I would recommend Cairns and the World Heritage rainforests here. The motto here is 'where rainforest meets the sea'. and not far inland is 'outback' June-September is also warm here being the tropics, other places around Australia can get very cold. Some Conservation & Environmental Organisations in CAIRNS (QLD) are ... Conservation Volunteers Australia, Cairns The Wilderness Society (Cairns Branch) Wet Tropics Management Authority A list of them and contact details are http://www.wettropics.gov.au/wwc/wwc_groups.html Here's an idea of what they do in a month http://www.conservationvolunteers.com.au/volunteer/conservation-connect-list.asp?MONTH=any&linkedoffice=office_14 One of the exciting things to do in the Cairns area is locating the endanged Cassowarys - http://images.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q=Cassowary&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2 and helping injured native wildlife.
