How to find a sponsor?

How do I find a Australian sponsor?

  • I have a friend over in Australia that I visited for 3 months. I am now back in USA but I want to get a work visa and go back to Australia for awhile. I do not have any of the jobs on the SOL list on the website www.immi.gov.au I am not sure which degree to really get. I do know I have to get a degree that is on that list. After I get a degree that is on the SOL list how do I find a Australain employer that would sponsor me. I don't know any Australians over here in USA and my friend over in Australia couldnt sponsor me either. Any help on how to start this process would be very helpful. The work Ido right now is with seniors and disabled people in their homes or in assisted living facilities but I am not sure that is on the SOL list though. Thanks for your time

  • Answer:

If you have qualifications and experience in an occupation on the SOL that is current when you apply for a work visa, you don't need employer sponsorship. Independent visas however take 2 or 3 years to be granted which is much longer than the time taken for employer sponsored visas. The (new) SOL occupation that is closest to what you do now is probably one of the Registered Nurse specialties such as Aged Care, Development Disability or perhaps Disability and Rehabilitation and those occupations are likely to continue on the SOL over time. Following are the required qualifications and job descriptions for occupations in the RN group: http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/0/B42C2EFDF727CCA4CA2575DF002DA61F?opendocument If you get qualifications and experience as an RN in any specialty, you will find it fairly easy to find sponsorship if you want to speed up the visa process. Many Australian hospitals and care facilities have been sponsoring nurses from overseas for years and don't need to be introduced to the concept. EDIT: When you say "Is there a website where I could get the required certificates that would be required in Australia. I don't have any certificates in this now because I dont need them here but I have done this work for 5-6 years", you indicate that you have misunderstood Australia's requirements. It's not so much the paper certificates that are required but the training and qualifications combined with work experience. You can't just go to a website and get a certificate or two and hope that they will be accepted. See the following for details of the required qualifications and/or experience: http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/d/disabilities-services-officer-3421-17.htm Current requirements http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/0/D65D500F34C73EEECA2575DF002DA70F?opendocument New requirements If you have employer sponsorship, and have adequate experience and qualifications, you may be able to apply as a Disabilities Services Officer but only if you and the employer can satisfy DIAC that the Market Salary Rate for the occupation is at least $45,220. Experienced DSOs usually earn something under $40,000 and Immigration may well refuse the application on the grounds that the MSR is too low even if the negotiated salary is higher. The only way to find sponsorship would be to directly contact as many potential employers as possible but your chances of being able to find sponsorship and qualify for a visa for such a low paid position are very low indeed. If you're serious about moving to Australia, go to university; get a nursing degree; get some experience and then apply.

The professions on the SOL list change frequently - there is a greater than average chance that any degree you start now will not lead to a career on the SOL when you are ready to apply. Keep that in mind. With regards to sponsors - if the type of job that you are looking for is the type to advertise internationally then they are the type that will sponsor applications for migration visa. So ask yourself - is there a job that I can do now - that when a job comes up, the job advertisement is published in the US and Canada? If you are not in that type of field or you are not at that level (seniority) in your profession - then you will not be eligible for an employer sponsored visa to Australia. EDIT: To be an RN you need a Bachelors degree in Nursing. To work in an aged care facility you will need an additional Graduate Diploma in Aged care. That is 4/5 years in person teaching at a university (Nursing cannot be done by distance education). you will then need additional experience in this role To apply for migration assuming that RN is still on the SOL list in 7 years (how long it will take you to qualify). You need to be qualified because this job requires you to give out medication. That said - its unlikely that you will be able to get a sponsor as there are sufficient Australians available to do this role (which is the only reason an employer seeks to employ someone from overseas). Also the salary is lower in aged and disability areas than within the hospital system.

The SOL is due to change in july and many of the occupations have been removed. if your between 18 and 30 you could get a working holiday visa for 12 months (if you qualify). But it is strictly 12 months and you can only ever get one visa
