What is the weather like in Sydney during September?

What semester is best to study abroad in sydney, austrailia?

  • i'm pretty familiar with what sydney is like temperature wise...but in regards to rainfall//weather in general, when is the best time to study abroad? My options are the first week in february - mid may or the first week in september - mid december Additionally, the first week of the program is spent in Cairns, which I know guarantees a lot of rain if I was to go in february. Also, what would be the best time to go in regards to things going on in the sydney area?

  • Answer:

Honestly I'd say take the mid September intake. As you are going to Cairns for the first then mid September is a good time as the temps are in the high 20's (centigrade) and the humidty is quite tolerable. Also it's good to swim at the beach at this time. Sydney is also reasonably dry and mild at this time of year. You can still get cooler nights but the days are heading toward the early to mid 20's. December and February are quite warm - hot and sticky, especially February, in Sydney with it being the tropical wet season in Cairns so hot and really humid. In Sydney those are the beach months as well. Also in mid December most places will be closed for Christmas and universities are on their summer break. For fun December is a great time to come to Sydney, for study not so much. Mid May things are really cooling down in Sydney as we head into winter, it'll be wet and cold. Cairns will be perfect then and if you were spending the entire time up there I'd recommend mid May for you, but as you are coming to Sydney as well I'd say mid September gives you the best of both worlds.

depending on which institution u r going to in sydney, am pretty sure there is no institutions open from late october - early march... usually mid oct -mid nov is exam time for universities in sydney. and they close off for a long holiday earliest opening late february. so if you are coming for study, to a university, coming to sydney late february means u r coming for fall - winter season and it does get cold and rainy, but then you are pretty close to snowy areas where u cld duck a quick trip skiing and all.... or, come around july as second semester stars on the close of winter, so u r coming for spring - summer and u get beach months from sept.

definitely go in september- mid december. it's spring-summer and more people are out and doing things. but there's pretty much things going on all year round.
