Should I attend college in Australia? What should I major in?
-
I'm currently a sophomore (10th grade in highschool) living in the island of Saipan (its been 2 years). And also I've lived in Guam for 9 years so I am fluent in the English language. I am a Korean citizen wanting to go to Australia for college. So I'm wondering what colleges are well known and good, approximately how much the college would cost, and if I can become an Austrlian citizen after graduating college. I am also wondering what to major in (I would like to major in a degree that would allow me to get jobs easily in Australia). I would also like to know the requirements in attending an Australian college and also what tests are taken to get into a college (SAT?). I am seriously stuck right now....Pease help out. Thank you.

In another answer, I gave you links to the international student pages at our 4 highest ranked universities. Each will have slightly different entrance requirements which will be detailed somewhere on their sites. The sites also list fees for international students. Here they are again: http://info.anu.edu.au/studyat/International_Office (ANU in Canberra, ACT) http://www.usyd.edu.au/future_students/international_undergraduate/ (University of Sydney) http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/int/ (University of Melbourne) http://www.uq.edu.au/international/ (University of Queensland) What should you major in? As we're talking about several years in the future (when you graduate), it's difficult to be specific, but there is usually good demand for any of the health professions and most types of engineering. Our Critical Skills List (CSL) lists the professions most in demand at present, but it's impossible to say what the situation will be several years from now. http://www.exceptional.org.au/vacancies/overseas/ Here are the requirements for a student visa: http://www.immi.gov.au/students/ When you have graduated with a degree in an occupation needed in Australia, you can apply for a visa which will allow you to stay here. If you have enough work experience or an employer to sponsor you, this could be a permanent visa. If not, you can get a temporary Graduate visa which will allow you to gain work experience that will qualify you for a permanent visa. After 4 years in Australia, including at least 1 as a Permanent Resident, you can apply for citizenship. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/visa-options-inside.htm

Try doing a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting. Accountants are in high demand in Australia. If not, try doing a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Mechanical or Mining) if you want. Engineers are also in high demand in Australia. Yes, you can become an Australian Citizen but you need to get Permanent Residency first under the General Skilled Migration Program (GSM). Go to http://www.immi.gov.au to find out. Consider the following universities: UNSW, University of Sydney, Australian National University (ANU), University of Melbourne, University of Queensland (St Lucia) or University of Western Australia (UWA). Yes, they accept SAT or GCE or High School Certificates.
