How easy is it to get a nanny/Nursery Nurse job in Sydney, Australia?

  • I am due to move to Australia in October this year, I will be living with my fiancé and his family till we get ourselves sorted, I have all the relevant checks and certificates to apply for these job roles but how easy is it too get a job? The reason I need advice on this is because I have a £3000 loan to pay and I don't want to not pay it so I need a job straight away to keep up with my monthly payments of £155. Any advice would help????? Thanks

    If you don't already have a job agreed then Australia won't give you a work permit or a residence permit. You can't arrive on a tourist visa, find a job and adjust you status afterwards. Australia only gives work permits when there is a shortage of Australians who could fill the vacancy. I doubt there is a shortage of nannies. There is a list of "in demand" skills on the Australian High Commission Website. If your in the London area then a personal visit to their offices in the Strand is a good idea. You get current advice from the experts. Having an Australian fiance counts for nothing. Even if you were married there would still be hurdles to jump through and it's a long and drawn out process.

If you have qualifications in early learning (even a certificate or diploma) they will fall over themselves to employ you. We have a shortage of carers in the preschool daycare environment. Private nanny jobs are usually found through an agency or sometimes parents put ads in the local areas paper. So depending where you intend to live, jobs could be so easy it's not funny! The Eastern suburbs or north shore (richer area) would have more private nanny job opportunities but anywhere else there are childcare centers (like in every suburb) and they are nearly always desperate for staff. There is also like a "temp" agency where you register and get sent to various centers to cover any staff shortages they might have.
