Which states require school teachers to eventually obtain a master's degree?

Is a Masters degree in Australia equivalent to an American bachelors?

  • I heard that American universities always require a 4 year bachelors in order to go to postgraduate school there. In Australia however, bachelors are only 3 years in duration. Apparently one would have to do the masters degree in order to be entitled to attend graduate school in the states. Is that true? So is the American bachelors degree worth more than the Australian one?

  • Answer:

The length of the bachelors degree all depends on the course....some may be three but many are four ! Pharmacy as just one example , is a four year degree followed by one year's pre registration in a Pharmacy.... No, a degree here is worth every bit as much as one from the States ...

I can't comment on the Australian system, since I don't know it. However in the US, it generally takes 4 years of college or university study to obtain a bachelor's degree (of course, some can finish in 3 and others take 5 or 6). Then to attend graduate school, you will need to have attained a bachelor's degree and passed an exam in your field of study. After graduate school, one obtains a master's degree. However, there are programs that make obtaining a master's degree easier. There are also programs to obtain it while working.

From what I understand in the US you have a year of "general studies" before taking a major in your chosen degree, in this case business. Here in Australia we don't have that year of general studies and from the first year you get straight into the degree itself, some degrees also offer a 4th honours year, which is for exceptional students. Our degrees are well regarded worldwide, with some of them having a similar status to US Ivy League universities. I'd like to suggest following the website below which is an Australian website and gives you a better idea of our degrees, at least in the state of NSW. http://www.uac.edu.au Also I don't see Australia listed in the link you have provided.
