I'm going to be in Australia for two weeks with my family. What are some things that we must do and see?
-
We plan on staying in Sydney for 8 days to tour the city and go to Luna Park. What other things should we do here? We also plan on flying to Melbourne and chilling for about 3 days. We wanted to check out Cairns, but it takes 36 hours to drive there and plane tickets for the 4 of us would cost almost $2,000. Is there any way we could get there for a cheaper price? We're going to be there in August, by the way. Thanks in advance!

Answer:
In August I strongly suggest you go to Cairns, you can get tickets quite easily for four people for under US$1400 return - see Jetstar and Virgin Blue airlines. (Jetstar is AUD$139 each way per person). Cairns is truly fabulous and it's the perfect time of year to go. If necessary skip the Melbourne section of the trip, it will be cold in Melbourne in August, and although Melbourne's a great place to live it's not so much of a tourist destination. You might also like to go to the Gold Coast on the way - you can either drive or fly from Sydney. Flights in August are AUD$79 from the Gold Coast to Cairns one way with Jetstar. The Sydney to Gold Coast drive is very beautiful with gorgeous beaches the whole way and plenty to see and do. I think personally that 4-5 days would be enough in Sydney, and spending some time (say maybe 3 days) driving up the coast to the Gold Coast for about 3 days and then flying to Cairns for another 3 days or so would be a much better option where you would have an amazing holiday.

I would rather say that the Sydney Harbour, Opera house, Luna park and Harbour Bridge are the places that you cannot miss. I would rather say to take a Cruise/boat from Sydney Harbour. There are many cruises providing Sightseeing experience in the Sydney harbour. It would be a good experience also for you.. I am not sure about the price..so no comments
