Answer:
As above, Bondi Junction Westfield shopping center is great and QV Buiding in the city. You can also try the markets in China Town for bargains, cheap prices etc, inner city, just get in the cab and ask for "Market City - Paddy's Markets. Cnr of Hay and Thomas Street - Haymarket/Chinatown" There is a market on the lower floor on weekends and a shopping center and cinema etc upstairs. All cab drivers know where it is. http://www.marketcity.com.au/public/content/home.asp?xcid=1 Above is the Market City website. You can aso walk to Queen Victoria building from Market city. Chatswood mall has two decent shopping centers and an outside mall, there are quiet a few shops to look at there. Same as above you can just get in a cab and ask to go to Chatswood mall, there is a large taxi rank in Chatswood also so you can easily get back to your hotel. You can also try shopping at Broadway shopping center and in the main street of Newtown which is right off Broadway. Newtown has small interesting boutique shopping (only go during the day as they tend to close up early.) Broadway is ok if you have an hour to fill in there is a few bargain clothing stores. If you ever get lost ask a decent looking person where the nearest taxi rank is or just hail a cab. If you want somewhere you can spend the day shopping try Bondi Junction or Inner city Sydney = Queen Victoria Building, you can then make your way through Pitt street mall and then follow directions to walk to Market ctiy, a cab may not take you as it's so close.

In Sydney there are quite a few good places to shop. Castle Hill is not bad, but it is far away if you stay in City and has no car. The same goes with Burwood. QVB has some brand names, so does the near by Pitt St. Mall area. If you are looking for emeraging Australian Designers, Oxford St. is a good area to go. On Saturdays, there is the Market on Oxford St - a place where a lot of Australian Designers made their head start there. ie. Lisa Ho. Then, there is the Surrey Hill area. Crown & Bourke St. A bit more pricy then nomal retail shops, BUT they offer you stuff in good design and style. Can't beat it.
