What is living on Hamilton Island like?

Hamilton Island local thinking of moving to Sydney...?

  • Hi guys and gals, Been living on Hamilton Island for the last 6 years (in the Whitsundays, North Queensland), my partner may have a great job in Northern suburbs of Sydney - Artamon area - after living on the island I'd be looking at a friendly suburb close to his work with decent shops and restaurants, bit of activity but not Kings Cross! Not near a highway etc but also has to be (relatively) affordable... We have no kids. What are some nice suburbs in Sydney that would fit the bill? What are areas like St Leonards, Artamon etc like? I need friendly faces and a "village" atmosphere! Is this possible in a big city?? I am originally from Brisbane (but that was 6 years ago - very different now)

  • Answer:

besides my first reaction ( are you people crazy?...etc...) there are plenty of villagy type suburbs around either north Sydney or North west, I'm thinking of Gordon or Turramurra... but I suggest you rent any small unit for 3 months until you get the feeling of the place and decide for yourself.

What? Are you crazy? Why move to the suburbs when you're living on an island?

Sydney sucks. You'll hate it. Trust me, it ain't all it's cracked up to be (except the crime perhaps.) Spend a week there and if you don't get mugged and still want to move there, you're a fool!

Are you crazy? Why would you leave an island for a dirty, crime infested city? Stay where you are!!
