Which university is better to study COMMERCE: University of Sydney OR Macquarie University?
-
I'm planning on undertaking a commerce degree majoring in finance and accounting. I put UNSW as my first preference (it is the best Australian university for commerce). However, which uni should I put for my second preference? here are my options: 1. Bachelor of Commerce (major in finance and accounting) --> University of Sydney 2. [Double Degree] Bachelor of Applied Finance, Bachelor of Commerce - Professional Accoutning --> Macquarie University. Which university is the better option for me? I'm mainly looking at the quality of education and which uni is more attractive to employers (for commerce). Thanks for your help! =) P.S. Sorry if this is not in the right section.

Answer:
UNSW and Macquarie are very prestigious for their Business and Commerce degrees. You won't go wrong with either one. In fact, all 3 universities are reputable. What I suggest you should be looking at instead is the finer details; the course structure and units you will be doing. There are slight variations between universities in terms of sequencing and the units they offer. Always pick the one with the most units and structure you like. BCom @ USyd: http://sydney.edu.au/courses/?detail=1&course_sef_id=Bachelor_of_Commerce_1465 BCom @ UNSW: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2011/3502.html BCom-ProfAccg @ MQ: http://www.courses.mq.edu.au/2012/Undergraduate/Degree/Bachelor+of+Commerce+-+Professional+Accounting All 3 will impress employers but at the end of the day, it is who YOU are as a person which is more important. Personally, I believe MQ will be the best option because it is very business-orientated. UNSW is more science. I know of a family friend who started his first semester in Commerce at Monash (that's Melbourne's equivalent of USyd for those who don't know) but moved up here to study at MQ. I also have a few friends and know of some old classmates who transferred there from other various universities. Transport wise, it's also great since it's the only university with its own train station. UNSW and USyd aren't particularly easy to get to compared to MQ. The double degree will also make you stand out more. It gives you the depth of knowledge and skills which other graduates don't have. I hope this has helped. All the best with your studies.
