Do people babysit in Sydney?

Why people like Sydney Australia?

  • i know there's certain tension between melbourne and sydney, but honestly i don't get why people like sydney. i lived in melbourne about 7years now, and expected a lot more, but last week when i first visited sydney, it was quite disappointing. why the whole cities so packed? narrow street, building are too close to each other,,, except opera house, park around st james, i just don't get why government let developers design the city like that from the first place. i get there's couple of pros to live in that city,,,such as diversity, traffic seems fine, i liked that there's so many people as well, (frankly melbourne's too quite in general) but i just don't get some people saying 'its beautiful city' if you think sydney's beautiful, tell me where exactly?

  • Answer:

Of the two cities, I much prefer Melbourne but there is absolutely no doubt that Sydney is a beautiful city. The harbour is stunningly beautiful - easily one of the 3 or 4 best in the world with views to the harbour from hundreds of places around the city. Sydney's beaches are beutiful and it has some lovely parks. Also, Melbourne doesn't have anywhere with the character of The Rocks which isn't surprising as it was settled later but that also explains how 'government let developers design the city like that from the first place' - Sydney was never designed. It grew over the years from the original penal settlement. In any case, it would have been impossible to design a city like Melbourne with the problems presented by the sheer extent of the harbour.

I am Victorian by birth who has lived in NSW all my adult life. I love Melbourne, it is easy to navigate, has wide streets has great shopping, has beautiful parks and I feel very comfortable there. It seems more elegant, "ladylike" perhaps Sydney,to me, is the showy "teenager", full of excitement and anticipation. Its streets are crowded and I cannot find my way around it without a sat nav. But Sydney is a beautiful city with the harbour and romantic little inlets, the Rocks. Sydney looks so pretty from the air when flying in.

Go to a place called Bradleys Head, near the Zoo. Walk out onto the stone jetty at the end, and have a good look around. Then tell me that Sydney is not beautiful.

Probably because it is the only city which is marketed to international tourists. I personally am over Sydney. It is crowded, full of tourists and crime. Give me Melbourne any day. Melbourne is a much more sophisticated city. I love it!

Thank you for showing that the rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney is well and truly still alive And that Sydney is the suprior as at least and to my knowledge in here I have not seen any Sydney siders giving Melbourne such a pasting. Which on behalf of us Sydneysiders proves what we always knew, Melbourne is where the brain dead and whining idiots go as Sydney is just too much for them. I rest my case.

I was born and grew up in Sydney and have lived in Melbourne for over 20 years now. Sydney is the outdoorsy good time girl, Melbourne is the sedate dignified sister. Sydney's harbour IS beautiful, the beaches have golden sand and real waves and swells, there are vast tracts of bushland in the suburbs and the weather's generally better (i.e. warmer) than Melbourne's (although despite popular conceptions it does rain more in Sydney).

Sydney wasn't designed, it grew from Circular Quay inland. Some streets were designed, the magnificent old buildings along Macquarie Street were designed for the street. Over the last 200 years, some order has been brought to the streets. The outbreak of plague in 1900 led to a great deal of demolition and remodelling in The Rocks area and many of the narrow lanes have gone. Similar restructuring in the area around Central Station has also led to better streets. Melbourne was designed as was Adelaide. The city that compares best with Sydney is Hobart, another beautiful non-designed old city that grew from the harbour inland. Sydney is a vibrant, beautiful city with something for everyone. I've lived in Melbourne three times and have always had a good time there but Sydney is my city of choice. Some will disagree with me, the nearly 4million who live in Melbourne for a start, but there are plenty who will agree with me.

Beats me. I've always wondered why people thought it was beautiful. I personally find it ugly, apart from the harbour which was average. Sydney is the loud and ditzy blonde who wants to show off her fake boobs and try to have her way with the guys. Melbourne is the quiet, sophisticated brunette who reads books and when she removes her glasses, reveals her real beauty.

I was born in melbourne and love the city! so much culture!! as a city i like melbournes vibe better, i live in Sydney now but dont often go to the city cos i have no need to, i live on teh Northern Beaches which is amazing! Sydney city is clean and it is a beautiful city but it doesnt interest me that much! it does fill my heart when i come home from holidays and drive over the bridge the harbour is one of the most beautiful harbours! i find when i visit Melbourne the traffic to the suburbs out of teh city is insane! its way worse than sydney!
