How to transfer files from my PC to an external hard disk?

  • i cannot do it i cannot seem to get it right ?? ??

  • Answer:

Right click on a file, go to Send To and click on what should be Removable Disk E: (or some other letter). You can also open My Computer twice with one window being for the external disk and the other for your internal hard drive. Click on a file in one window (external drive window) and drag it to the other. You're sorted.

We need more details. Are you trying to transfer data from your PC to a USB-connected hard disk? If you just bought the hard disk, go and try reading through the manual (yeah, thats right, I asked you to read the actual manual). You may have missed critical steps that were required for your USB hard-disk to work.

The manual is not a bad idea. If you don't have one (ie it's second hand) you can usually find a copy of it on the manufacturers web site (same with drivers if you need them). Sometimes thou it might pay to check if PNP is enabled on your bias. And if you are on windows 98 you might have to instal USB 2 drivers, or if your using a firewire connection, firewire drivers or enabling the firewire port in the bias.
