I need to know about planes?

Going to Perth AU from the US. What do I need to know?

  • So not anytime soon will I be going to Perth. But I will be in a few years, and I want to be fully prepared when I go. I'm only 15, so I mean... I still have until I'm 18 lol. I'm just curious if there's any main things I need to know about before going. I've heard a lot of great things about Perth, and I'm thinking maybe if I like it there later in the years maybe I'll move there. One thing I was wondering about is transportation. Since I'm young, I don't know much about going places, I've never been out of the US, well I have been to Canada. But, will I just be taking the bus/train around Perth? And also I tried research on a site, I can't remember what site it was but it said I'd need to take 3 planes to get to AU, which was $2,000+ . Is there any other way to take less then 3 planes?! I'm just curious, and I'd like to learn up on things while I can instead of waiting until the last minute to learn tons of things about Australia. Oh and of course I need to know about money. What's a good online money converter ? well, thanks for reading :)

OK. To get here: You can do it in 3 plane trips, and the quickest route is: 1. Ohio USA to Vancouver Canada 2. Vancouver Canada non stop to Sydney Australia via Qantas or Air Canada (longest non stop air route in the world and it goes over the north pole using the great circle route - only two airlines do it) 3. Sydney Australia to Perth Australia Alternative Routes could involve 1. Ohio to Los Angeles (LAX) then 2. LAX to Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific) or Kuala Luper (Malaysian Airlines) or Singapore (Singapore Airlines) 3. and then whichever one you went to in No 2 to Perth 2. LAX to Hawaii 3. Hawaii to Sydney 4 Sydney to Perth 1. Ohio to New York (JFK) 2. JFK to Europe (which city depends upon which Airline) 3&4. Europe to Perth (there will be at least one stop on these routes Emirates uses Bahrain for instance) Once here: There is a pretty pathetic public transport system. There is only 5 train routes. Buses are pretty slim on the ground in most suburbs because Perth has a really low population density and big houses on big plots so there is not enough people in any one suburb or street to justify a lot of buses. Hint: get your Ohio Driver License and then get an International one at your local Automobile Association before you leave and then you can always hire a car when you get here if you find public transport sucks. You can convert money here almost anywhere. Just make sure you know how much your allowed to bring in cash from our Customs Dept. I'd just put it in a citibank account and draw it out here. We have Citibank here in Perth, and we also take VISA, Master Card, Diners Club and American Experess.

I'm not sure about your plane problem, i never really look at that stuff but perth is a nice city. i lived in one of it's suburbs for 18 months. perth is known as the green city. kings park is awsome. Just read up on best areas to live near perth. i do not reccomend living too close to the city, or any city really. i lived in rockingham. very nice place. shops and stuff easy to get around and stuff. they've got a new train system and apparently it's a really effective to get around. i didn't actually go on it. once your 18, you should be able to drive, so save up for a car. i'm fifteen too so don't worry, i'm telling it from a teens perspective. you'll love it. Western Australia is quite laid back, i have to say. Jet star might be an alright plane company, if you have it. wow, i have to admit, i've never actually wrote to someone from america. lol. hope you will like it over here.

im 15 and i live in perth and it is beautiful! there are trains and buses all around perth. 5 train routes that all lead to and from perth city. and many bus stations..... you can buy a smartrider, to use as a credit card for the transport, you piut money on it and swipe whenever you hope on and sipe off whenever you go off.... the fee s normally 60c for one route and 90 for 2. i highly recommend you get a smartrider though. if youare going to school there they will probably provide you a special student on which has your student id on it. public transport is well known in perth... it depense where you fly from about planes if you go to sydney you can just fly one straight to perth but i would imagine you need to take 2 planes. one to another place in australia, thena domestic one.... the international plane would prob be about 2k. but domestic are only normally $200 there is a shop called travelx, to exchange money there. if you want to get a debit or credit card. visit your local bank to apply. you can get a debit at 15. or you can get a travelx card... im with anz bank and it is good. AND DONT FORGET, AUSSIE MONEY IS SO MUCH COOLER THAN USA MONEY hhahah... hve fun in perth.... feel free to email for any thing else [email protected]

Perth is often said to be a bit like Los Angeles as far as transport goes. Car is the best way to get around, but there is an extensive train and bus network too. The bus network is considered one of the best in the country (if not the world). Perth is also known for its great network of bicycle paths that criss-cross the entire city (you can travel the full length of the city without ever using roads). You can't fly direct to Australia from any Ohio airport, so to fly from there requires 3 connecting flights. You can get to Perth in 2 hops if you fly from New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles or San Francisco.

cant really tell you bout Perth cuz I dont live there, but have visited you either have to stop in Ohio-Los Angeles-Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane to Perth, Ohio-San Francisco-Sydney-Perth. you could stop in New york or Atlanta but you have to go the long way which is much more expensive. It will cost at the most about $1800 return, use oanda.com for currency converter.

Not much to worry about, it depends more on where in the States you grew up, Aussies tend to dress a little more formal but have more relaxed attitudes, take a plane to Melbourne and a train across to Perth. Perth will be paradise in comparison.

Perth is wonderful but if you are not considering going for several years, I wouldn't worry about it all just yet. Things change.
