School fees in Australia for international students, and job prospects for accountants?

  • hi all. my 7 year old daughter and i will be moving to oz within the year (fingers crossed). can anyone tell me what the school fees are like for international students? my daughter should be in year 1, if im correct. Also, i've browsed several websites about the salary bases for accountants in melbourne/australia. Is the info on these websites pretty close to what accountants really make there? Even during recession, are there still lots of available jobs for accountants? Thanks everyone!

  • Answer:

There is a non-refundable once-off application fee of $206 Annual tuition is $6790 for prep to year 6 A non-refundable transfer fee of $515 to transfer to a different government school. You'll find all the details at: http://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/edulibrary/public/intered/vicgovsch/Ministerial_Order_No._143.pdf The work outlook is generally good for accountants and there will still be openings for good people during economic hard times. Some immigrant accountants have evidently had problems finding and keeping jobs over the last few year and the government has therefore recently introduced new immigration requirements specifically for them. They state that Accountants are only eligible for immigration if the applicant has achieved a score of at least IELTS 7 in each of the four competencies, and/or has completed The Professional Year – Skilled Migration Internship Program Accounting (SMIPA). If you haven't come across this before, it might be an idea to look into it to ensure that you're as employable as possible. Accountants would normally earn well above average salary packages though the actual amount will of course depend on the size and industry of the employing company and the nature of the position. 100k plus is not at all unusual.

where are you from..? a 7 year old international student is rare but it will be good for her since she will be automatically fit in and might even be mistaken for australian born.

Australia is about to slip into recession. I would suggest that you not come - esp coz you have a kid. Many people are being sent away from their jobs.
