  • Hi. Just wanted to know where can I book less expensive day tours in melbourne. Also whether it would be cheaper to different book day tours or hire a car for 4-5 days and to go around all places to be shown by day tour operators. I am considering this because day tours seem to start from around $ 100 per tour which seems a bit expensive to me. Thanks a lot in advance..

hiring a car then paying for petrol and extra kms can also be expensive. if you can find an unlimited kms hire car then there are lot's of places around melb that are worth visiting. the dandenong ranges[ grants park ] birds ,wet weather rainforests,and yarra valley wineries. the mornington peninsula, sorrento [swim with dolphins]. werribee open range zoo. the grampians [a fair way from melb]most other tourist things are able to be accessed by public transport, eg zoo , museum, science works ,and the aquarium. hope this helps

Check out the HalfTics offcie next to the town hall. they mostly have reduced day tours. Hiring a car is a not to bad an idea, BUT there is the hiring cost the gas and you need to drive. But you properly would end up a bit cheaper then the tours. On the other hand you might not see all they would show you and they gona tell you. If your a backpacker, you might want to consider POOLING with some others and share the cost of the car and the driving.
