What was the funniest thing you have ever done for Halloween?

Melbourne ~ Halloween for Kids?

  • Halloween hardly happens in Australia....BUT .... over the last few years there has been a gradual rise in interest! Growing-up it was just this thing done in America... but this seems to have changed....ALOT of the kids in our local area (St Kilda) "dress-up" and go "trick-or-treating" ... and seem to have an awesome time doing it ..... :) Do you know of any Halloween activities for kids??? Areas where "Trick-or-Treating" is a common thing??

  • Answer:

To the people above saying they would never let their kids go on their own knocking on peoples doors. I think it's fairly common for them to have parental supervision, you must be only looking at what you see of Halloween on TV. On Trick R Treating in Aus.... I know of some neighborhoods who had organized and posted signs and letters to houses about it and for people who were interested to have some halloween decorations outside their house so the kids would know which houses to go to. As for other activities I'm guessing it's a matter of organizing things with people you know as their isn't any big or major things planned since we don't actuallly celebrate it. I think Halloween themed parties are always popular around this time especially amongst uni students.

This isn't America and we don't want to be like America so we don't do the halloween thing here. What sort of irresponsible parent would let their kids go knocking on the doors of complete strangers anyway? Have you considered there could be pedophiles behind any of those doors waiting to grab your child? I also think it is completely wrong allowing a child to wander the streets begging for lollies. It is a joke. I have even seen kids who haven't dressed up just walking around with a bag scabbing food from people. I really hope Australia wakes up soon and bans this American junk.

That's completely opposite in the western suburbs. When I was younger I used to get dressed up and go trick or treating every year with my friends & there were lots of other kid doing it. Nowadays you're lucky to get at least 1 kid knocking on your door asking for candy. But in Australia we don't even celebrate it so go figure..haha activities to do? Buy a pumpkin remove the the seeds and carve something out if it.

I live in America in the state of Georgia. My son and I always carve faces into pumpkins, make halloween cookies, and go costume shopping.

Personally I would never let me kids go knocking on doors without my supervision. Another point to consider is that since trick or treating really is a north american thing to do, most people do not take very kindly to having children knock at their doors, and generally don't have any candy sitting around to give out. I have not heard of any particular areas where trick or treating is done in melbourne. My advice would be to throw a halloween party at home and have your children invite their friends over, that way they can dress up and play spooky themed games while stuffing their faces with junk food while you know they are safely at home, and not irritating cranky old neighbours by knokcing on their doors.

Tric-or-treating isnt really popular for australian families,, its more families that have an english or american parent, salot of people over here think its stupid and dangerous, so you might not get any lollies
