At what age can you start a job in Victoria (Australia)?

You can apply for casual part-time work at the age of 14 years and 9 months in Victoria, but most businesses will not employ you until you're 15. The best thing you can do is start applying at stores such as Target, KMart, all supermarkets etc. The inquiry desk will have application forms. If a vacancy is available you might be lucky enough to get a job straight away. Try to avoid fast food outlets such as Macca's and KFC as the conditions, shifts and pay are nowhere near as good as supermarkets and department stores.

Each State is different, so a good place to check this is at McDonald’s, a national employer. They quote: "At McDonald’s, we apply a Company minimum age policy of 14 years" However, for Victoria they state: "In Victoria, the employment of children is governed by the Child Employment Act 2003 which states that the minimum age of employment is 15 years of age" and for NSW, NT, SA, TAS "The minimum age of employment outside school hours is 14 years of age for casual and part time employees."
