How much money should I take to travel to Melbourne?

• I'm planning to go to Melbourne in 3 years time when I reach 18 yrs. I'm planning to travel to Melbourne by air, then stay one night in Melbourne, rent a car then drive to a town about 35km from the city. I plan to stay there for 2 weeks, around April. How much money should I save up for, including car hire, accommodation and flight costs? Thanks if you answer.

  It is really difficult to predict what prices will be in three years time. Currently you can get accommodation from about $80 upwards per night and cars work out at about $100 per day with insurance etc but would probably be quite a bit higher if you are 18 and on P plates. The fares will depend on where you are flying from and I imagine they will be quite different to what they are at the moment so no benefit in predicting them. I think if you aim for about $2-$3,000 you could have a great time and do all the thigs you would like to do (if you are travelling within Australia.
