What is good about the money?

What is a good amount of money to take to the royal melbourne show?

  • Ok, so I'm 13, so I don't have much money, and me and my friends are going to the show tomorrow. I'm really bad with money, and no matter how hard i try to save, i just can't keep it, and also, I barley get any money from my parents, and have no part time job. My ticket is paid for, but my 2 friends have heaps of money (they both have part time jobs, I just can't find one) and one is bringing $60 and the other $100. I think this is overkill, and I'm probably bringing about $30-$50, and our tickets are already brought. So, how much money do you guys think I should bring? I'm getting a few show bags, that all together cost about $25, and I'll be going on a few rides. Then I want some money in case something else comes up, but I'm not sure if I have though of everything. Thanks guys. Oh, and P.S, should I take a backpack to the show, I know I'll look like a loser, but I really can't be bothered carrying around all of my show bags, so when I go on rides, will they have a place for me to put my bag for a few minutes? Should me and my friends hire a locker? Thanks guys.

  • Answer:

If you spend $25 on show bags then your not going to have much left for rides and lunch. I'm not sure of the prices in Melbourne but I think the rides are around $7-$10ea and food is not cheap. Why not buy your show bags at the end of the day? If the show hasn't started yet, how about go there a day or two before it starts, it's really easy to get work to help set up or even for a few days of the show

I've heard that the rides are half price before 11 or 11.30, so go early and go on all your rides then. Otherwise, some of them are $15 and many are almost that much. Take a bit of food with you and then get samples from the food pavilion. Take a water bottle - there are places to refill it. Definitely hire a locker and then you can move around unencumbered. When you're on a ride, everyone's bags/shoes etc are just left in a pile at the gate. Don't feel that you'll look like a loser with a backpack though, as all the smart people use them rather than have to carry around all their stuff separately. Be a bit choosey about which showbags you buy - don't get sucked in by all the plastic gimmicky rubbish that you'll end up throwing out or breaking in a week. Go for qualilty, not quantity. Apart from showbags and rides (and crap food like soggy hot chips, pluto pups etc) the only other stuff to buy is all rubbish anyway. Definitely don't take more than $50. Remember, looking in all the animal pavilions is free. Go to the dog section and see how many owners look like their dogs. Go to the cattle pavilion and be amazed by how big some of the cows are. Check out the poultry pavilion, some of those birds are very unfortunate looking! There's lots of entertainment there that doesn't cost money! Edit: you have to be 15 to get a legitimate part time job apart from babysitting or lawnmowing type jobs.
