Wheres the best place in Melbourne to live for a young person?

well all the young teachers at school rave on about how moving to st kilda is the best thing in the world but it's quite expensive the person above who said fitzroy and northcote is right though it's kinda a different scene to st kilda which is more clubby, fitzroy is more artsy and about culture it's cheaper though

Usually young people who wish to rent and be in the vicinity of bars and clubs would be the inner suburbs. Suburbs like St.Kilda, Prahran,South Yarra are amenity packed and full of rentals. More bohemian/creative types venture to Brunswick, Fitzroy - on the other side of the city. It is probably cheaper there with vintage stores and cheap pubs. It can also be rowdy, in a not so good way. Richmond is a good suburb for small apartment living and close absolutely everything. People often go into the city for nightlife and then catch transport home. Not many people live in the city except for the up and coming Docklands. But I think most people buy apartments there. well depending on how far you want to live away from melbourne ??? 1 hour away is geelong ( a very good place with its own shops like westfield) or you can live in werribee which is personally not as good but is closer being only 20 minutes away. closer still is laverton about 10-15 minutes away which sort of has nightlife but is real close to the city... still, depending on the house most average around 300 grand for a renovated neat/tidy house with 4 bedrooms etc.. HOPE THIS HELPS !!!!!!!!!!

No where cheap is that close to fun, but try east inner city. Rent is a little high, so try and shack up with a few Ex pats (depending on where your from), that way you get your cheap rent and you can live in a fun area.

somewhere in the city near the CBD if you can...but i dont think you can find anything cheap
