Im at LTU's Bundoora campus.. its a good place!! Plenty of people from all over the world. But, on to the question. Coburg - alottt of people that go to LTU from overseas stay around Coburg/Brunswick area. 5k from the City - with direct tram access. And a pretty easy link to LTU. But Melb is too spread it for you to be able to walk everywhere. LTU would be 20k from the Melb CBD - where everything is. So, your best option will be try to get a good transport link.. which Coburg/Brunswick area has. Id say that would be your best option. After that, itd have to be either Richmond/South Yarra or South Melbourne/Albert Park area. Both are super close to the city, but would be a bit tricky getting to uni. But youll get to know people at LTU, theyll have their licence.. so when you go out, itll probably be with them -- and because they have their licence, itll be no worries. You could also live on campus with one of 3 colleges at LTU. Its a pretty good time.. and literally, get up and walk to class. Anddd the final thing.. http://luis.latrobe.edu.au/housing_appl/login.asp You have to be registered to use that.. soo email the uni (from your uni email!) and tell them your circumstances and ask for access, because thats a database of people looking for students to come into their home while at LTU. Good luck, happy hunting.. and if you need anything else.. i can give you my yahoo email and you can shoot off any worries youve got. After that,

ok so these are you public transport options, assuming that you will be taking public transport it's probs best that you live near the transport http://www.latrobe.edu.au/travelsmart/pt.html because there are so many options in how to get there you can basically live anywhere you could live near the 246 bus route this start in elsternwick, goes through st kilda which is a very exciting beach area but i suggest you stick to the inner north/east suburbs because they're closer i think have a look at northcote (especially the westgarth district) richmond clifton hill these places are all just a few train stops from the city, and if you really wanted to walk some of these places will take you a good 30-40 minutes or you could live on the 86 tram route which means the docklands apartments are an option you should also check out fitzroy because the tram runs through brunswick st which is very interesting, it's very artsy, lots happening, veyr cool both these places are very very close the cbd the 250 bus starts in port melbourne which is a very nice beach area it also goes through carlton, which is great - it's inner city, very nice and full of awesome food you could basically live anywhere in the inner suburbs without a car and still get to la trobe fine but with la trobe it's more difficult to get to if you don't live in the northern suburbs or city because it's not that easy to train to, you have to ride from the train station to get to la trobe oh and by the way all these areas are pretty upmarket...if you want to live near nightlife etc you're going to have to live near the city
