Is practical nursing a hard study?

Can an American Assistant in Nursing, study for Certification III in Aged Care in Australia?

  • I'm a Certified Nursing Assistant in America. (Which is the American equivalent of an Assistant in Nursing or Personal Care Assistant in Australia.) I finished training and have a years of working experience as a Certified nursing Assistant. I'll be entering Australia on a Working Holiday Visa (subclass 462.) On my visa I'm allowed to study for up to 4 months. The program itself is under 4 months long. So, I was wondering; could I study for my Certification III in Aged Care at a TAFE program? Do you have to be an Australian citizen or just have a visa that allows you to study? Thanks for reading the question. Answers would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

  • Answer:

You are an American with written qualifications. I have no doubt any nursing home or aged care facility will be glad to have you. Once here you will see for yourself that any Filipina, Indian or Female African refugee is just about automatically placed in work in that area. I would say your only difficulty getting work would be the fear and phobia prevalent in the Aussie work place of hiring anyone that the fools in charge are petrified of losing their own job to.A common trait of management throughout Aussie. Most industries are run by administrators without any hands on experience of what actually goes on --bean counters and accountants responsible only for the bottom line profits and ALL are so bloody inept they deem to hire people they think are no threat to them. Wait till you get here and see for yourself. The other thing--total denial of this practise--just wait and see the thumbs down from the guilty.

I am not 100% certain how much, but there will be a fee attached to what you want to study. If you plan on working as an AIN you will have to check with the Nurses Registration Board of the state in which you would be wanting to work.
