How hard it is to become an electrician?

I would like to know how to become an Apprentice Electrician in Tasmania, pay rates and government incentives?

  • Im a 27 year old female who wants to drastically change her career to become an electrician. As i have recently gone through a divorce and moved to start fresh in tasmaina.i want a career i can earn good money in and not be stuck behind a computer or need even more uni training as i've been there for 6 yrs. Thing i would love to know are: *pay grades through apprenticeships in tassie? *pay after you finish apprenticeship? *how long the apprenticeship is for and if you can do this quicker? *how do you go about getting an apprenticeship? *any gov. incentives for being over 25 and/or female? *any gov. incentives at all and if so how do you find and get them? and any other relevant information or websites, phone number ect to get as much info as as possible. thanks irene

  • Answer:

You will need to find someone to hire you and sponsor your apprenticeship - most school counsellers do this but since you are not a school I suggest contacting the TAFE. The lenght is 3 years (no short way) and the pay is very low. You might get an incentive because of your age but I have a feeling that that is only for the over 30s.

the wages re very low, like 200 bucks a week or so and it goes on for like 4 years... my hubby tried to get a plumbing apprenticeship but after trying for months hes now doing a traineeship in Pest Control. He gets 2600 bucks a month and hes about to get his full licence after only 9 months.
