What is Norfolk like?

What is it like to live in Geeveston, Cygnet or New Norfolk, Tasmania?

  • I'm looking at moving to Hobart area, and was wondering what it is like to live in the following towns: - Channel area - Geeveston, Cygnet, Castle Forbes Bay, Dover etc - New Norfolk Are these friendly towns? Safe, secure, low crime rate etc? Basically looking for a cheap entry to the housing market somewhere that is safe and friendly, and on a regular bus route :)

  • Answer:

I agree with Topsy's answer - if you want a safe and crime-free place to live, definitely choose the Huon Valley or D'Entrecasteaux Channel area over New Norfolk and the Derwent Valley. Derwent Valley (area surrounding New Norfolk) is very pretty etc., but there are lots of rednecks, property crime etc. and road accidents due to bad roads and hoons on the Derwent Highway north of Hobart.

Geeveston has 5 buses to hobart each day starting around 6.30am. also weekend service sat and sun quiet town. safe. police station. no hotel bowls and rsl club postoffice supermarket, coffee shops. visitor centre of theHuon Valley probably cheapest entry to housing market. on a river with parklands high school and a catholic school to grade 6. adsl service (1) good tv digital 22 channels hd and low def. austar etc. quiet town good town about 1200 people. huonville is closer to hobart housing more expensive. similar services cygnet dearer real estate. lots of greenies (real lots) dover further away 80ks to hobart bit green but nice people. people wise huon valley very good. not too bogan.
