How old do u have to be to get a job in canberra?

I recently migrated to canberra, i didnot get any job why?

  • I dont have any australian experiance in any field, and they required experiance. I had worked in computer dataentry and some programming, here i applied for retails or childcare but they also not selecting me why?

Look - childcare is a hard field to get a job even when you have qualifications (Bachelor of Early Childhood Education). It is not a "anyone can do job". Canberra is our government hub - you have to be a citizen to work in any governmnet position, so you will have a reduced job pool to choose from. You other questions mentioned that you only moved in November. November-February is a quiet time on the job hunters front - noone is interviewing because of the summer and Christmas. Also you are competing with all the new university graduates who finished in November. Getting Australian experience in the IT field is #1. once you have this (a year or 2) you can move more easily to a job you are qualified for. So start looking for a job that just pay the rent - 40-60K for instance. Canberra generally pays less than Sydney, Melbourne etc for IT positions so dont get greedy. A friend of mine just got a government position after 4 months of searching (in IT) and she had 12 years experience in universities and companies (and the position is a lowly paid position). She would rather be employed at no money than have a big break in her CV.

Do you even have any kind of experience or qualifications with childcare?? or retail? why would they hire you when you have no experience in those fields. Also your english doesn't sound the best so would be hard to hire you for a retail job. Perhaps Canberra isn't the best place as there isn't too much down there. Come to Sydney and you should find a job no problem. But not in childcare if you have no qualifications! It isn't because your an immigrant. If you were better suited to the job over a local you would get it.

Well they would choose the person who is best suited for the job in their opinion and sadly in their opinion it is not you. I suggest keep on applying but if you are still not getting a job after even more the reason probably is because of lack of experience in Australia, so maybe you should try and volunteer or work for free for a while as work experience at a company.

Woooppppp

It is very hard for an IT person to get work outside of the field. They believe you will leave as soon as the economy improves and go back to earning the "huge" salary on offer in IT. You could try dropping that experience from your CV but that only leaves a hole in your work history. I don't know what else to say as i am in the same boat, but i have local experience and still cant get work.

Play the Race Card. Australians crap themselves when they're called anything that ends in ''ist'' or accused of anything that ends in "ism''! They have the Politically Correct to thank for that! Now if that doesn't work, and it usually does, then perhaps you might consider going back to school and getting some real qualifications! Try plan "A'' first and watch them tremble!

ooo

Because australians should get preferrential treatment, not immigrants
