Are there any bush camping sites in Queensland or NSW that allow dogs?

Where can i bush camp near the gold coast qld.?

  • Where can I bush camp within 2 hours drive from the gold coast? I would prefer not to pay and I want to be allowed an open fire and be abe to fish. I have checked numerous websites and I have called the council and Im finding that most places either don't allow bush camping or open fires, or they are shut most of the year. Can anyone tell me actual places that I can go camping where I can go fishing, sit by an open fire and not have to pay for the right? Please don't just copy links, tell me place names. Ps. It sickens me that iv had to research this so much just to find a place to go camping. Thanks to our over-regulating, money grabbing government if I hadn't thought to check the laws I could have been facing fines for going camping... iv seen drink drivers get less punishment than it seems an unregistered camper would. Good job idiots.

Yes . . . . .those good old days of driving on the beach and at the Spit, with a fire and fishing are long gone. No more driving at Lennox, Byron, Pottsville, Kingscliff and Fingal either. Probably the same at North Straddie and Double Island Point too! Real shame and I totally agree. Lake Awoonga camping ground is one, but thats more than a 2hr drive, but awesome Barra if you have a boat. Possible Wivenhoe Dam, Somerset Dam, and the other bass dams in the area. There is also Lake Moogerah, out near Boonah. Even the Sunshine Coast has adopted this mentality. You may need to go further north. Agnes Waters and 1770 for a great campfire and salt water fishing experience! No more swag and campfires for us Aussies! Wish you luck!

There is nowhere that is allowed that I know of apart from the rest area on or just off the highways or motorways . One is allowed to stay up to 48 hours I believe if it belongs to main roads. as for open fires they are a no no many rest areas today have fireplaces or free barb ques. Ask the Mains road dept for a map or go to The Racq there used to be bush camping books put out and they sold them also check a couple of book shops.

First you need a permit from the fire department for ANY sort of a fire outside of an Authorised fireplace or firepit. Lighting one without a permit can result in a fine ranging from between $150 (I THINK) to over $5000. If lit when there is a total fireban then you are likely to be charged with Arson if somebody reports you. There are plenty of free campsites, however as most are in National Parks there is a total fireban on those locations. Here's a list of camp sites around Brisbane, there is no list for around the Gold Coast. Some have fees and NONE allow fires outside of the firepits. http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/list.php?region=68&facility=78
