NZ road trip, where to surf? New Zealand North Island?

In January 2010 i'll be driving from Gisborne to Auckland, taking a few days with a few stops for surfing along the way. Where would the best places be to stop?

2010 or 2011? Sh^t that's a long ride! Lol. Stop by here in the Bay. We have the best beaches in NZ.

Whakatane Heads, Papamoa, Mount Maunganui, Tay Street (mount reef), raglan, manu bay Hit us up if you wanna surf with someone at the Mount; i live there.
