Where can I find a part time job for summer?

Where can a teenager look to find a part time summer job in Auckland?

  • Hi there, I'm 17 and from december to february I'm planning to work as I think it would be a great experience. What are some places that would hire me and where can I look to find these job openings? I've never worked a day in my life before and I really have no idea how this all works. I appreciate all your help, thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

Make up your CV and take it to supermarkets, cafes, fast food restaurants etc. Anywhere you want to work. Look on student job search (www.sjs.co.nz) or trade me jobs. Seek doesn't really have much for people wanting summer work. Ask your friends and family. Supermarkets are nearly always hiring and so are many shops, especially around Christmas time. Good luck =] ....

One thing that is a good place to get money is Cafes, coffee and all that. Big thing over there and I know that you can take Barista courses and get a job in a cafe. :)

Ask around. put small notices up in the places you frequent (if they allow it) such as cafes, school/uni noticeboards, etc. Often summertime jobs come about via word of mouth. Also, if you have a FB profile you could put a note there. Rather than say you've never worked a day in your life (NOT the best opener at an interview), make a short list of the skills you have and how you may have used them already, e.g. cooking, bookkeeping, computing, word processing, organising events (parties, babysitting, meetings, etc), gardening, etc. Anything that shows initiative, common sense, and a can-do attitude. Good employers value the latter above lack of experience, as it's easier to train someone up who has a hungry 'want to learn' mindset, than someone who's a slacker or know-it-all. Good luck.

Have a talk to Student Job Search or look on Trademe or Seek or somewhere that advertises jobs. If you know the kind of work you want to do, then go in and get an application form from them directly. Or if you want to do babysitting or work around the home, then try putting a small ad in your local paper. Ask around - people often have friends or parents who are looking for casual staff over the holidays. Good luck! A first job can be very exciting and having your own income for the first time is an amazing feeling :)

Ask around, your parents, friends or any other relations that might be able to help you.But i suggest doing self promotion. Go around and find out who is hiring
