How much money will it take to travel from Adelaide to Melbourne?

Travelling to Adelaide from Melbourne by plane or car?

  • Which one is cheaper, travelling by plane or car to Adelaide?

  • Answer:

It would probably cost much the same but driving you will need accommodation along the way which would cost more and eat up your time in Melbourne. Driving you get to travel the Great Ocean Road which is definitely worth the drive. However, where are you staying in Melbourne? If in a hotel in the city then parking will cost you between $20 - $30 a night in which case you would be better to fly.

To travel from Adelaide to Melbourne you don't need to drive via the Great Ocean Road. The quickest road trip is via Stirling, Tailem Bend, Horsham and on to Melbourne. It's about 9 hours driving time so you wouldn't need to factor in overnight accommodation. If you could get one of the cheap plane tickets the companies offer from time to time then flying would be cheapest.

if you do your research and book flights at the right time flying is way cheaper, tiger airways have flight from around $20. if there is a group of people going who can all chip in for petrol car may be cheaper.

It all depends on what you plan on doing when you arrive. Generally it is cheaper to go by plane however if you don't know anyone when you get to Adelaide you will have to spend money on a taxi or public transport. On the other hand if you have a car you can do what ever you feel like. In my opinion go in a plane if your trip is less than a week however if you are going for more than a week you will probably want to take your car

Plane probably. But it does depend who you are travelling with... I drove from Adelaide to Melbourne and back last year and paid about $120 each way in petrol... and you can get dirt cheap air fares now as well. It is alot more exciting doing a road trip though! Just hanging out with some friends and stopping at little towns on the way is awesome :) Depends how much time you have (takes about 9 hours) but I have done both ways and I would definitely drive again.

Hi, I've done both and if you're going alone it's cheaper to fly, due to cheap airfares you can find with Virgin and similar services. In fact it's half the amount it is to fly there and back. If your traveling with 4 or so people then its obviously cheaper to drive.

Depends if you put a price on your time or not. Plane is quicker, and with some of the cheap fares at the moment, probably cheaper also. And less dangerous, but also less scenery.

For the love of God, please don't drive. Yes it will be more expensive if it's just you, and it is a very, long, tiring drive. Plane would be more safer and is only an hour and a half, check out www.jetstar.com.au for cheap flights. I don't support non-Australian owned companies like Tiger Airways, so I refuse to travel with them. Plane it. Best, cheapest, quickest, easiest and safest way. Peace x

Flying by plane can be cheaper, but don't fly Jetstar. I once flew that route with them, and it took around 8hrs due to flight delays- more time than it would take to drive.

Plane, and quicker..........
