How many A-Levels do universities like?

Do all irish universities have the same points system?

• i know that trinity dublinis very hard to get into and that most courses require 4 high alevels. and in other irish universities like galway the points are also very bhigh. but someone told me that trinitys point system differs from other irish universites (because it's in a diff league or something) is this true? and if so can you tell me what a-levels equal what points? thank you

  no. every college in ireland, even the small private business colleges, are based on the same centralised system. The colleges don't decide how many points a course is worth. the points are not actually an entry requirement, just a guide. for example, If a college course has 100 places, they will rank the top 100 people who applied for the course based on points. if the 100th person who got in got 500 points, then next year the course will be said to be 500 pts. this is because the points don't usually vary too much year to year, but they are just a guide. Each college will have a certain number of places allocated for UK students i think, and you will compete with each other. for these purposes and A in the a levels is worth 195 points. (I know this is true for NUIG, not entirely sure if it's the same for all colleges) The points don't vary very much in ireland among the main universities for comparable courses. trinity is not part of the national university of ireland like galway, cork, maynooth, and UCD, but it is part of the cao points system like all the rest.
