What to bring to Irish College & what to expect?
-
I'm going next week for 3 weeks and its my first time so I was wondering what to bring with me and what to expect. I'm going to Coláiste Cholumba in Connemara and I have good enough Irish because I come from an Irish speaking school. Are the bean an tí's very strict? Is the Irish rule strict? What clothes to bring and what items? Do they have a limited time in th showers? Is anyone else going to Coláiste Cholumba or have been? Is it good? Do you lose or gain weight? Top bunk or bottom? And most important is it fun? Thanks! Do your best to answers as much of my queries as possible :)

Answer:
Designer Bob probably answered your question already - it's about 300 years since I went to Colaiste Mhuire(was it?) in Falcarragh Donegal for 3 weeks age 15. Would think it's the bean an ti's job to be strict always, Irish would be a rule 24/7, top/bottom is up to you and your mates, always bring a geansai, lose weight with all the walking and dancing and gain with all the bread and homemade jam you devour, banging on the door if too long in the showers in today's economy - the main thing is you have a really great time, lots of fresh air and walking - I HOPE - what a failure if you're now ferried here and there! - and normal social interaction and make new friends. You will enjoy it no matter how strange the idea seems - everyone does.

so ive been at an gealteacht every summer for the past 10 years started as a student and i now go as a teacher. the best things to bring is lots of casual clothes. WARM jumpers / coats is a must. bring some outfits for the ceilis and discos, in general the theme nights are fancy dress so think ahead if you have any costumes you can bring... Yes its strict but it is fun. It will depend on the house and bean an ti you get as to how strict it is. food will depend on the house if you ahve any allergies be sure to tell them the first day. also rain coats and umbrellas are a must..... and make sure to bring a notebook or two and lots of pens/etc for your classes.
Let me share a personal experience, never call an Irish teacher a fat b*tch because the bean an tí might just be her mother!
