Has anyone been to the castle of Amboise in France.How was it?

Can anyone suggest a castle to stay 1 night in Ireland?

  • Going to the UK in 2011 with 3 others, and as part of it we're looking to spend 2 days (1 night) in Ireland. For something unique, we thought we'd stay that 1 night in a castle Can anyone suggest a good one? Cheap if possible, but reasonably-priced is OK - Not sure what 1 night in a castle goes for!!! All suggestions and web links welcome!!!

    Ashford Castle is set in beautiful surroundings in Cong..Co.Mayo but is not far from Galway. Google it to see the beautiful castle & surrounding grounds, lakes. They have special deals on now. When I first saw it was amazed at it also & you can see the Salmon jumping high in the lake... It is lovely to have a picnic sitting beside the lake or walk in the forest. Lots of famous people have stayed there also.. Pierce Brosnan (007) stayed there as the service & warm welcome you receive there is the best. The beautiful village of Cong is where the movie 'The Quiet Man' which featured John Wayne & Maureen O'Hara was filmed ... so you can walk about this movie set village & it is very quaint...have a great time & if you are in Galway visit McDonagh's famous Fish & Chip shop down Quay Street near Spanish Arch as they are the best ..

Cheap is not really an option in Ireland especially if you are looking for a castle stay. However there are a few you should consider. I'm guessing that you mean the Republic of Ireland and not Northern Ireland in the UK? I'm not positive though- the Republic of Ireland isn't in the UK its a seperate country. The UK consists of Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Great Britain. If you mean the Republic of Ireland, my favorite castle to stay in is the Abbeyglen Castle in Clifden Ireland ( http://www.abbeyglen.ie/ ), County Galway. Its not as "touristy" as some of the others, and it is in a more remote area. It is amazing!!! I don't think any of the castles are cheap as someone else said, but this might be more reasonable than some of the others. We stayed at Drumoland Castle too- it was beautiful but I liked Abbeyglen a lot better and it was a lot less expensive than that. I Would Personally go for Ashford Castle, Its Lovely And The Surroundings are amazing :) Nowhere is cheap though :(
