How hard is it to find a job right now?

How hard is it to find a job in ireland right now?

  • how hard is it?

  • Answer:

hard enough right now. There's still job losses in the local and national papers and wider media, although there are expansions of existing companies and new start ups. Current unemployment figure, seasonally adjusted Sept 2010 is 442,417. So any jobs are competitive. Lots of people have been out of work over 2 years. In the last week alone, one hotel in my city is in receivership with the loss of 130 jobs, Pulse Accessories are shutting up shop and there have been other stories in the media. I regularly see posts on forums where people are putting the effort in looking for a job, sending CVs and hearing nothing back at all. And SW are well aware that people are not getting responses to CVs they send too. If you're an Irish citizen returning back to Ireland after losing your job (or considering returning without a job to go to), beware the habitual residency clause for seeking JSA as published in the Independent newspaper see link below. It's worth having a search through the newspaper websites of national and local papers for example Irish Times, Independent, Examiner and so on and having a read through regional and local papers some of which you can read online for free to get a better idea of things. Even boards.ie will give you an idea of how hard it is to find a job atm.

I know people are saying it's really hard and so many people are unemployed but I'm taking my gap year at the moment and finding it quite easy to get job interviews and that. It's just that so many people are applying to the same jobs. Also, my dad's friend is a manager in M&S and he said that they're finding it hard to find part-time staff because no one wants to come off the Dole for it. On the plus side, I'm looking for part-time work so hopefully I'll get in there.

Its nigh on impossible to be honest, many companies are laying off workers. Thousands of young people are emigrating to Canada and Australia because there is no hope of them getting a job here. Around 450,000 people are out of work which is a lot considering our population is only just over 4 million. My partner is a HGV drive EC1 and he looks on the FAS website every day and there are no driving jobs, at least not where we live. He's also a qualified machine driver but there will be no housebuilding for the foreseeable future and very few road building projects. He's been unemployed for 12 months and getting very depressed.

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥

Depends on what you're qualified to do. If you're in IT or biomedics, there are still jobs. If you're an average joe working in construction or unskilled areas, then it's pretty tough.
