How much money should I take to Ethiopia?

How much money would I need to take a trip to Ireland?

  • I am a 18 year old senior in High School and I am wondering how much would it take me to take a trip up to Ireland? I am American by the way and I am a nice guy. I'm planning to go to Ireland to spend some time for a vacation. But I don't know how much money I'll need if I ever do end up going there. Like how much money I need for flying tickets, How much I need for a hotel, how much I will need to spend my self on food, clothes, etc. And how much would I need if I plan to bring friends with me? This will be my first time going out side my country traveling to another country. Also will I be welcomed in Ireland if I'm American? Thanks.

You need to basically work on around $150 per day each for accommodation and food. B&Bs are friendlier and usually less expensive that hotels (I run a B&B so I'm biased lol). Obviously sightseeing, car hire/public transport and your airfare will have to be added on top of that. Public transport outside of the major towns/cities is a bit non-existant to be honest. This website might give you a few ideas of what to see and do http://www.discoverireland.ie/ It might be best to concentrate on one area and explore that fully rather than spend all your time travellling. A 60 mile bus journey can take 2 hours or more here !! As long as you are open, friendly and don't talk about yourself all the time you will be welcomed wherever you go. I disagree with the above answer, be proud of who you are.

We welcome everyone, but don't be too surprised if Irish people react negatively to you expounding your views on history and politics in Ireland. For cost of flights, google flights to Ireland to see how much. Airlines have different rates for different days and times. Rather than hotels, could I suggest staying in Bed and Breakfasts instead. Not only are these cheaper, but they tend to be family-run, and in people's homes, and this can be very useful if you are looking for tips on where to go, etc. You can expect to pay €50 per person per night in a B&B in Ireland - this does include breakfast, and all rooms have their own bathroom. If you want to visit places in the countryside, you'll need to arrange some form of transport. Places like Killarney have lots nearby and hiring a bike is a good way to get to them, but you'd need motorised transport for places further afield. Coach tours are possible and affordable, and you could also hire a car, but investigate this before committing yourself. Very few automatic cars are available to rent in Ireland, petrol is expensive (currently €1.19 per litre, there are 3.5 litres approx. to the gallon, do the maths), and the roads are such that you cannot drive 100 miles in 100 minutes, it isn't physically possible. I would advise going to an area or city or large town and staying there for a few days at a time. As regards some of the sights and tourist sites, your best bet would be to check out the tourist info at www.discoverireland.ie to see the rates. Bear in mind that if you do go on coach tours, you would be paying a group rate for many places. If you've never been out of the US before, things will seem quite different. Be prepared for a culture shock.
