Mechanic job in California.

Hi i am a mechanic in California and wondering who i need to talk about going to Ireland?

  • So I'm a mechanic in California fixing cars ext. and I'm thinking I'm sure they need mechanics in Ireland too and I'd like to live there for at least a year or two. So who do i talk to about moving over there and getting a job over there and what not cause i don't want to just move and have no job or anything

  • Answer:

I'm afraid there are a glut of mechanics in Ireland at the moment, and any available jobs have to be offered to suitable Irish candidates first, then candidates from other EU States, and then the rest of the world; meaning the chances of an American mechanic finding work here are extremely low.

The only way to work temporarily in Ireland is to first find an employer to sponsor your work visa...nearly ipossible. the economy and unemployment are worse in Ireland right now than in the U.S. Ireland is part of the European union...all citizens of all E.U. countries can work and live in any other E.U. country without a visa...putting Americans at the end of a very long line. See site below to redearch visa reuirements. This pge yellsabout working holiday visas, too...and recently Ireland added the U.S. to the list of countries it offers Working Hiliday vidas too...this might be a good idea for you....so contact them and ask about it.

Talk to Bill Cullen. He's got loads of Renaults that need fixing.

Podge and Rodge are back again

www.bunac.org !!!! They have 1 year work abroad in Ireland program. I went through this agency to work in Australia. I was more than happy with my experience :). Good luck...someday i hope to live in Ireland as well!

Yes, but we have plenty of our own mechanics here, thank you very much. It is actually a lot easier to employ people from other EU countries where we need them, but there are plenty of Irish mechanics around - too many at the moment, it would seem. If you've never been to Ireland before, I strongly recommend taking a long holiday here first. The reality of Ireland today is very very different to the Hollywood versions you might have seen. Trust me, we have mechanics.

I agree with Orla C. We have loads of mechanics in Ireland, we don't need any more. Those we do have are losing their jobs due to the recession. you remember the recession? I think you have one in America too. What is it with Americans wanting to come to Ireland? Garages are closing down and employees are being made redundant. If I were you I'd stay put and wait a few years until the economy picks up. Why don't you just come over on holiday and see if you actually like Ireland. It is very expensive here, much more expensive to eat out for example than America. Also the weather is dire, cold and rainy for most of the year. You would need to experience the country first hand to decide if it was the place for you.

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥

My cousin is a mechanic here in Ireland. He's just been cut down to a 3 day week and is struggling to keep afloat. The only jobs I see advertised are for experienced chefs. I really wouldn't recommend coming over.

You could try, but it may be difficult to secure a visa. Also, I live in Ireland and will just warn you that the economic situation in Ireland right now is VERY bad, even if you did move, finding work and getting good pay would be hard. And as others have mentioned, there ARE actually many mechanics in Ireland, and many other good ones. We aren't actually the land of leprechauns and sheep. But back to my point. My dad's friend is a mechanic (a very qualified one at that) and even he can't get work. So he's moved to London. That being said, Ireland is nice and you would probably like it (but not if you are expecting the "Ireland" depicted in movies) but finding work as a mechanic would be tough. Best of luck x
