Where should I study to do Pharmaceutical Chemistry?

Want to study medicine in Ireland and I didn't do Chemistry for the Leaving Cert?

  • Want to study medicine in Ireland and I didn't do Chemistry for the Leaving Cert? I'm in LC now and I want to study medicine in university next year. My careers guidance teacher said I could get the points and all but I have a problem, I haven't done Chemistry for the LC. I know you can go to UCD, NUIG and RCSI without having Chemistry but I was just wondering will I be very far behind others studying medicine? Will I be able to catch up? Has anyone else out there studied medicine without doing Chemistry for the LC? I have to admit I'm not a big fan of Chemistry. We don't really have good science teachers at our school. Agh!...I'm confused!

  • Answer:

A buddy of mine didn't do physics and chemistry in the leaving but went on to do medicine in UCD, currently he's one of the top of his class. I think he's in his 5th year now. Anyway I remember he found his pre-med year a bit of extra work but very manageable, he just made sure he never fell behind and asked of help if he needed it, did a few extra grinds etc. After pre-med there was far less 'general science' and mostly biology/ real medicine stuff. But we left school before that extra medicine entrance exam, so i don't know if there's any chem in that.

its not neccasary once you have one science subject naturally,.. and if your smart enough to get the points for medicine in the first place then you'll have no prob catching up, may be a little extra work but nothing too major
