I want to know where i can study radiologist in ireland,? How long? and..what i need in my leaving cert..?

  Firstly, a radiologist is a doctor who specialises in the use of imaging (CT, Ultrasound, MRI) to diagnose and treat diseases. Therefore to become a radiologist takes 5 years of medical school plus 2 -3 years of work experience before entering 5 years of radiology training. In total will take at least 13 years. If you are asking about a radiographer, then you need to do a 3 year course in radiography. After that, you can work a few years before specialising in ultrasound or MRI etc. The difference is that radiographers are involved in the technical aspects of acquiring medical images and do little interpretation. The person you will come across in the hospital taking your xray for example is the radiographer. He/She ensures that your xray is properly centred (very much like a photographer). A radiologist will meet you if he/she is treating you using imaging techniques (eg. angioplasty, image guided biopsy etc) or when called to perform the more complicated ultrasounds etc. Usually radiologists interpret your CT/MRI/Ultrasound/XRay examination and issue a report to your doctor or discusses their findings with your doctor in a multidisciplinary team meeting.
