Questions such as this get asked all the time on Y!A Ireland, why not check out the "Discover" section top right of your screen there is lots of really useful information in past answers. Ireland is quite expensive I'm afraid. Basically you need 100 Euro per day for food, budget accommodation plus a little sightseeing/spending money. Add in your return flights (haven't a clue but guessing at 500 Euro), insurance, car hire, fuel for your car (or public transport) entertainment/drinks etc and you are looking at roughly 1800 Euro for a week in Ireland ($2600) If you only have 1 week then you can't visit England and Ireland in 1 week, you would waste a whole day travelling between the 2 countries? If your really want to come here surely you know why and what you want to see? How can anyone recommend where to go without knowing what you like doing? I have 2 teenage kids, the places I like to visit are probably totally different to what you would enjoy. Use Google, type in "tourist destinations Ireland". Either do Ireland or England, you can' do either justice in 3 days. If you only have a few days and are flying into Dublin then you wont be able to go too far from Dublin realistically.

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥

Well a good idea if your only spending one week would be to choose a place to base yourself in each country. For example stay in dublin for the first half of the week and travel from there. A large number of people are now doing this when coming to Ireland because its cheaper. England is much bigger, so I would choose a part of the country you want to see and base yourself in a central location in that are (I recommend London). I would recommend you rent a car in Ireland if you want to see lots of different places because national transport is not great. Here are the national airlines of Britain and Ireland which fly to the US http://www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_us?countrycode=US&eId=101001 http://www.aerlingus.com/home/index.jsp However in between Ireland and Britain I would fly with Ryanair Europes cheapest airline (its Irish) http://www.ryanair.com/en If you base yourself in the Dublin area and you have about 3 days sites seeing i would: spend one day in Dublin get the train to Belfast for one day from Dublin and back that night (get the Belfast bus tour to see everything including the areas you wouldnt feel comfortable walking in alone) Either go to Newgrange a 5000 year old passage tomb which is older than stonehenge (and much more impressive) and the pyramids and see the Battle of the Boyne site (they are very near) Or go see Wicklow or Kildare
