Traveling to Northern Ireland vs the Republic of Ireland?
-
Which is recommended to travel to? Forgive me if I'm being too simplistic, but as I understand it Northern Ireland is under the control of the Catholics and Southern Ireland, or the Republic, is under the control of the Protestants. And this struggle with the Protestants is viewed as being similar to the colonists' battle with England in the early becoming of America? Explanation please, and which is recommended to travel to? It seems that Northern Ireland has less laws and restrictions than the Republic, which seems more appealing to me. Thank you for your time.

Ferret Fairy -- your answer isn't accurate.:-) I was driving between Belfast and Ballynahinch today (under control of some Catholics of course) and I saw many liitle green men, a few rainbows and even the odd pot of gold ---which I'll be selling later on Ebay....if I had electricity....or a computer....whatever one of those is .... Begorrah! ;-) Wish I could give points for MOST HILARIOUS QUESTION :-) caligurl, but do please come to Ireland, Northern or Republic of, You will have a great time. :-)

Where did you get that load of absolute and utter codology you call information? This is RUBBISH. Northern Ireland is NOT under control of either 'the Catholics' or 'the Protestants'. If is part of the United Kingdom, don't worry, they are used to visitors, even from your planet. There is no such place as 'Southern Ireland'. The particular official name of this state is the Republic of Ireland, or simply Ireland. Don't refer to it as Southern Ireland when you're there, it's considered insulting. The struggle of Protestants - my god, where do you get your information? No religion is 'struggling' on either part of the island! Before you travel ANYWHERE, dearie, I suggest you do some REAL research, and get some facts straight in your head. Otherwise you're in very serious danger of looking over-opinionated and under-educated.

And Americans wonder why the rest of the world thinks they are stupid...because some of you say stuff like this! And unless you are planning on committing mass murder when you visit, I don't think the legal ramifications really matter. Which is "recommended" to travel to? You're talking about Ireland, not Zimbabwe! both parts are safe and popular tourist destinations. And as for the Catholic/Protestant bit, what century do you think we're living in? They even have electricity, cars and running water in Ireland, ya know! Its not little men dressed in green running around after rainbows and pots of gold!

Good grief no, no religion controls either country. There has never been a religious struggle in Ireland, the problems in the North are political. We don't identify anything with American Colonists. Both are recommended to travel to, both have very similar (and pretty much the same amount!) of laws. Northern Ireland is part of the UK and uses the Sterling currency Republic of Ireland is a republic and uses the Euro Both are on the same island and the scenery and people are very similar. Northern Ireland is generally cheaper so your money would go (slightly) further - it's still expensive. There is no reason why you can't visit both, but do bear in mind that they are officially separate countries and you may need a separate visa for travelling across the border from one to the other. EDIT - Northern Ireland is PART of the UK, not under the control of it.
I should be doing something else
If you wanna use the GBP go to Norther Ireland, if you wanna use the Euro go to the Republic of Ireland - just try to not mention any of the stuff from your question in public... ;)
