What do I need in order to use UK appliances in Japan?

What do i need to use my electrical appliances in ireland?

  • i am traveling to ireland from the US and i will be using various appliances (blow dryer, cell charger, curling iron, etc). i know i need an apapter for the plug and a converter/transformer (?) for the voltage. my question is what specifically are these items called? i ask because id like to order them on ebay rather than spend twice as much if not more at radioshack. i was looking at this which says its an adapter and converter http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200659478883&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en i am interested in this one because it says it works for other countries, too, and i may be traveling elsewhere in the future.

Buy a travel adapter when you get there. See link, it the one on the right, with 3 pins facing you. Most supermarkets sell them. Don't forget it's 220V not 110V! Your one from eBay is un-necessary.

Okay. Cell charger. have a look at it. If it says 110-240v on it, all you need is a physical adaptor that you can buy for a couple of euro at any supermarket. Most phone chargers these days are rated this way. This goes for laptops as well. That step up transformer actually looks decent enough, I thought it would be more expensive and bulkier than that and was going to suggest, just buying a hair drier and curling iron here, as they are cheap enough, depending on how long. Don't listen to the 1st answer as for things like blow driers and curling irons you need more than what he is talking about as you need to deal with the physical voltages. My sister travelling over here (Ireland) from canada, destroyed her baby monitor just that way.
