Is traveling to Northern Ireland safe?

Is Traveling Overseas In Ireland a Safe Idea?

  • I've been wondering, with all the drama going on in some countries (such as Libya and Greece), is it safe to travel to the U.K.? I've been thinking of vacationing in Ireland but if it's not going to be safe then I won't.

  • Answer:

I'm guessing you're from the USA? Where for people aged 1-44, the leading cause of death is accidental death, as a result of accidents in the home (fire, falls, accidental poisoning, accidental discharge of a firearm, tornado damage, flooding, drowning) or road traffic accidents? To be honest, you'd be crazy not to come to Ireland. You'd be much safer here.

First of all, Ireland (at least 75% of it) is NOT in the UK. Secondly, Ireland is one of the safest places in the world for tourists with very low levels of crime (assuming you don't count the carry on of our political and economic elite that is....)

As other people have said, the Republic of Ireland is not in the UK. Northern Ireland is, but the Republic isn't. Northern Ireland (NI) is made up of Fermanagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Derry, Armagh and Down (for the Irish people, yes I did just use the FATDAD method of remembering the names of the counties! :P), everywhere else in Ireland is part of the Republic. I understand your confusion, especially as Great Britain and the island of Ireland are collectively known as the British Isles which would suggest to some that all of Ireland is part of Great Britain, but it's a good idea to remember this little fact, as a lot of Irish people will get annoyed if not insulted if you say that Ireland is part of the UK. As for your question, Ireland is a pretty safe place for tourists. There's crime and danger everywhere, of course, but the IRA aren't up to much any more so it's not nearly as dangerous as it used to be. There are still a few dodgy areas in Belfast (NI) I've heard, but those places aren't really in the city centre where the tourists would be. So yes, do come to Ireland if you want to :)

Its safe now as the IRA have been defeated. There is peace so your chances of getting blown up in a shopping centre by a IRA bomb in Ireland or the Uk is now unlikely. I know there are stories of the IRA still around but these are mostly in underground caves. away from the public eye where a few hang out drinking.

The island of Ireland all 32 counties (we aren't anything to do with great Britain or the British) are as far removed from international turmoil as the antartic is, we had protests recently over the EU loans but nothing serious.

If you read newpapers and see the TV news you wouldn't walk out your front door where ever you live in the world......people get run over by cars daily, there are muggers and murderers in every country of the world..................Ireland ( which is not the UK) is one of the safest countries of the World to visit and live in....and as for you the UK ( England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) is too..............................

Ireland is a lovely place to visit and generally trouble free - and that goes for the whole island.
