What is Ireland like?

What to do in Ireland? please help if you've been there or live there.?

  • I would like to travel to Ireland, but I need some subjective information. If you have been there or live there, could you please tell me where to and not to go, what to do and what I should be careful about, and which customs are important to keep in mind. I would be happy for every kind of answer, thank you ^^

www.heritageireland.ie Great site with places to see and things to do. As well as admission prices and locations. A few places I recommend Blarney Castle (of course) the grounds are gorgeous, Dunmore Caves...very cool, Kilkenny Castle, Dunbrody Famine Ship, Giants Causeway, Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast, Wexford Historical Park...drive through Wicklow that in itself is a site to see. Customs? Just be friendly and not ignorant ( ie wheres the leprachauns etc) You will find that people are extremely friendly and helpful if you need directions or recommendations of places to see and go. Rent a car...stay in hotels or B&B's. You will have a fabulous time! Also a really good book is " Fodor's SEE IT Ireland" it was very helpful for me when I planned our first family vacation.

This question get asked so frequently, why not use the "Discover" section top right of your screen that is what it is there for. Bring plenty of money (work on roughly 100 Euro per day for basic accommodation & meals plus a little slightseeing). Factor in your airfare, insurance & car hire & you will have a ball park figure. Sadly everything here in Ireland is expensive especially taxis & public transport, best to hire a car if you old enough. Keep an eye on your belongings, same as anywhere you travel to, ie don't leave your purse on the bar when you go to the bathroom. Bring an umbrella & a rain coat even in the summer it rains a lot. Don't bother telling people you meet along the way that you are 1/24th Irish and your great great uncle was from Sligo because they won't be the vaguest bit interested. That is about it really. As a tourist you don't need to worry about customs as such? Not sure what you mean by customs anyway? Enjoy your holiday.

There are no specific customs you have to be aware of. Forget the fairytale Ireland you might have in your head. Ireland is on a par with all of europe and Dublin is like a mini New York only more chic :-) I suggest you use google , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5emdftOIoos

If you say so

Go to the travel section in your local library and ask there.

Well I live in the wonderful green land of Ireland. It's a beautiful place yah. The sheeps roam all day long. Just be sure to bring clothes that will help you handle the cold weather. It's very foggy here. Don't be coming to see pretty sunny days, no, cause ya will be dissapointed, lad. Have fun if ya come to see the mother land! Wear green or the leprechauns will surely find ya!

I was happy with a pint of Guinness and traditional Irish music. Just ask where's the music at wherever you are. Saturday night most towns have something going on, on other nights you have to get luckier, or be in a city. The west coast is beautiful, everywhere from Cork city going west then all the way up through Donegal. It's all good.
