Is Gaeilge a dead language like Latin? What language do they speak in Ireland?
-
I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I really have no idea. For my Sweet Sixteen, instead of having a big party, my family, one or two friends, and I are going to Ireland. I'm really excited to go and I think we're going to Dublin and I thought they spoke English. But as I'm searching through google I keep reading that they speak Gaelige in Ireland. I thought Gaeilge was a dead language? Do they speak English or Gaelige in Ireland? Please and thanks. :) P.S. My mom keeps complaining that when we go the weather will be bad there because it rains there often. And she says it's extremely cold in Ireland and that we should go there during the summer but my birthday's in December. Does summer in Ireland arrive around the same time summer arrives here in the US with the earth's tilt and everything? And is it a better time to visit Ireland during the winter or summer? :3 Thanks again!

Answer:
Irish people speak English. The Irish language, or Irish Gaelic is spoken by people still, mostly as a second language though. You'll be able to communicate fine while in Ireland, as almost everyone speaks English as their main language. Winter in Ireland is relatively mild compared to the northern US states, but more harsh than many southern US states, so it depends where in the US you live. Any time would be wonderful to visit though, and I'm sure you'll have a great time.

''Does summer in Ireland arrive around the same time summer arrives here in the US with the earth's tilt and everything?'' You're FIFTEEN and don't know this???? OMG, scrap the trip and spend the time working with a tutor... I'll give you a keyword - EQUATOR. And no you will not need to speak Gaeilge to visit Dublin.

The Irish speak English...in fact better than most Americans Rain coats, warm clothes and if you are lucky you might get snow along with the rain and cold in December...............you may even see some sunshine....but it wil not be warm. It is always better to visit in the summer but ireland is not green and lush because of the hatwaves...it is because of the amount of rain ................... I will not explain Latin or Irish to an American as I know you find it hard to speak , write and spell in English
