The fastest way is by train via London. Catch a fast train from Reading to Paddington (27 minutes). Then the Underground Circle or Hammersmith and City Lines to Kings Cross (15 minutes). Then a First Capital Connect fast train to Cambridge (45 minutes; they run every 30 minutes Mon to Sat, hourly on Sundays. Make sure you catch the non stop train) Through tickets are available from Reading to Cambridge to include the Underground section in central London.
