Can I get a British passport?

Can you get English/British, Scottish/British, Welsh/British or Irish/British put on your British passport?

  • On all British passports I've seen, under the nationality bit it says "British Citizen". But I was once told that under the nationality bit on the British passports it can say English/British (if you are from England), Scottish/British (if you are from Scotland), Welsh/British (if you are from Wales) and Irish/British (if you are from Northern Ireland). Do you have to ask to get this under then nationality bit in your passport?

  • Answer:

It's not possible to have it on your passport. The only way to identify which part exactly would be from the persons town of birth. Although, on the passports it says "Issued by: UKPA" but it used to say "Issued by: UKPA, Scotland" in mine!

No, your nationality is British and British alone whatever part of the country you come from. You wouldn't expect a German/Bavarian passport or a USA/Idaho passport would you?

All you can have on your passport is British Citizen. It is a formal request from her Britannic Majesty that you should be allowed to pass freely. (So much for airport security) If you want it to say English/British you'll have to find yourself an English monarch to make the request. Our existing one is of German/Scottish descent.

You are a subject to the crown. This makes you British. Ain't it a little cheeky to think you might be different from all others?

My Passpot is a "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland:- E.U. Version" one..what`s this about a "British" passport..Since the U.K. joined the United States of Europe, we have been issued with these obnoxious, small red booklets, instead of the big, almost black, proper passports, which even then were UK passports, with the U.K coat of arms on the front.
