Where can we go camping!? southern New England?

Where to go camping on holiday in Devon, England.?

  • Myself and my partner are hoping to go camping this summer, probably in August, somewhere in Devon or possibly Cornwall. We will be driving down so will have transport. I have visited Devon before but when I was much younger and can't remember where we stayed or how big Devon actually is from the north to south coast. I'd like to stay somewhere 'central' so we can drive to other towns/beaches in the area but don't know exactly where is best to stay??? Thank you for any answers!

  • Answer:

Camp sites are fully booked in Devon & Cornwall during August, you need to book NOW. It is an hours drive from Exeter to Plymouth and nearly 3 hours from Exeter to Truro in Cornwall.

It is easily a three hour car journey from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, sometimes longer. Stay somewhere like Tavistock for Dartmoor (5minutes) and the South coast and Plymouth (25 minutes)and East Cornwall (10 minutes). The problem with North Devon is (in the terms of road travel) really quite remote and the road (the A386) is congested with lorries and tourist traffic and it is narrow and winding, with very few safe passing places. It will be nice for day trip but it is still at least two hours, even from Tavistock, Widemouth bay (Cornwall) is about (70 minutes) from Tavistock, Newquay and Truro (90 minutes), so as you can see, travel from East to West is simpler than travel North to South
