Applying For First UK Adult Passport Help?

  • I'm 19 and applying for my first passport (I've never been a child on someone else's) I am a British citizen and was born here as were my parents. But where it asks for parents details, i.e their birth certificates and passport numbers, I never knew my dad so this is impossible and I know of my mum but she has lost her passport and at the moment I don't know her whereabouts. Although at the age of 2 my nan was given legal custody and made my legal guardian and I have the certificate to prove this so I was wondering if the passport people would accept her details instead of my parents? I would much appreciate any help people can give as I really can't wait to send off the app and finally go on holiday! Thanks! Lol :D

    Your best bet really is to talk to the people at the passport office, they are the people who deal with these sort of questions on a daily basis and they are the ones who can give you the correct information. For heaven's sake, ask the "passport people"!

The passport office will accept your Nan's details instead of your parents. When you send off your application form include a covering letter explaining your situation with your parents and that your Nan is now your legal guardian and send the certificate that proves this.
